DriveGraph Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 9, 2026
DriveGraph keeps a private diary of your trips. It records your drives and walks so you can see your route, speed and distance afterwards. It was built so that your trips stay on your phone. The app's package name isavinash42.drivegraph.
The short version
- DriveGraph has no account, no server, no advertising and no analytics.
- Your journeys, including routes, speeds and times, are stored only on your device.
- Location is used only while you are recording a journey.
- Automatic trip detection is off by default. If you turn it on, DriveGraph uses background location and activity recognition to start recording when you begin driving.
- Nothing is uploaded unless you export and share it yourself, or switch on road matching.
- Two features always use the internet: the map background, and place names. A third, road matching, is off unless you turn it on. All three are explained below.
Location
DriveGraph asks for location permission when you first start a journey. While a journey is being recorded, the app receives your location up to once per second while you are driving, and much less often while you are stopped. This continues if the screen is off or you switch apps. A persistent notification shows while recording is on. Recording stops when you tap Stop. Unless you turn on automatic trips, DriveGraph does not use your location when you aren't recording.
Precise location is needed to measure speed. With approximate location, recording can't start.
Automatic trips (optional, off by default)
If you turn on Detect trips automatically in Settings, DriveGraph asks for two more permissions after explaining why: background location (location “all the time”) andphysical activity recognition.
- Android's activity recognition tells the app when you appear to be driving. This happens on your phone. The app does not use your location to decide whether to start.
- When driving is detected, DriveGraph starts recording the trip, even if the app is closed. The persistent notification is shown the whole time.
- Recording stops by itself after about three minutes of being still, or when you tapStop.
- The app restarts detection after your phone reboots or the app updates.
- Turn the setting off at any time to stop all automatic recording. Location is never used for anything except recording trips, and is never sent off your phone (see “Internet use” for the exceptions).
Motion sensor
While recording, DriveGraph reads the phone's accelerometer to tell whether the car is moving or stopped, so it can use less GPS while you are parked and notice quickly when you set off. The readings are only summarised on the phone as they arrive; they are never stored or sent. No permission is needed for this.
What is stored on your device
For each journey, the app stores:
- start and end time
- distance, speeds and moving/stopped time
- start and end place names, if available
- a sequence of location points: time, latitude, longitude, speed, altitude, accuracy and heading, and whether the car was moving or stopped at the time
- location readings the app judged unreliable (for example, a sudden jump), kept so the route can be recomputed more accurately later; they are never shown as part of your route
- the cleaned-up route drawn on the map, and, if you use road matching, the road-matched route
The app also stores your settings (units, theme, recording mode and speed thresholds).
This data is kept in the app's private storage and is excluded from Android cloud backups and device-to-device transfers. You can delete a single journey, or all journeys, from within the app. Uninstalling the app removes everything.
Internet use
Map tiles. To draw the map behind your route, DriveGraph downloads map images and data from OpenFreeMap (openfreemap.org). Like any website, the tile server sees your IP address and which map areas are requested, which reveals the approximate area of the journey you are viewing. Your recorded route, speeds and times are never sent. The map is drawn on your phone.
Place names. After a journey ends, the start and end coordinates are sent once to your phone's built-in geocoding service to look up a short place name such as “Ranchi”. On most Android phones, Google provides this service, and it is covered by Google's privacy policy. The result is saved on your device so the lookup isn't repeated. If you are offline, the journey is titled by time of day instead, for example “Evening drive”.
Road matching (optional, off by default). If you switch onMatch routes to roads in Settings, then after each journey DriveGraph sends the route's positions to the road-matching service named in that setting, so the line on the map follows the roads you drove. You are asked to confirm before it is switched on.
- What is sent: a list of latitude/longitude positions along the route, already cleaned up on your phone (stops reduced to a single point), in batches of a few hundred.
- What is not sent: times, dates, speeds, place names, journey or device identifiers.
- When: only for journeys recorded while the setting is on, and only once your phone has a network connection. Recording never depends on it; your journey is saved on your phone either way.
- The service sees your IP address and the positions, and its own privacy policy applies to them. Switch the setting off to stop sending immediately; journeys already matched keep their matched route on your phone.
DriveGraph doesn't send any other data over the internet.
Sharing and export
You can export journeys as a CSV file and share it with any app you choose, using Android's share sheet. What happens to the file after that is up to you and the app you share it with. Exported files are created in the app's temporary storage and replaced on the next export.
Children
DriveGraph is a trip-logging utility and is not directed at children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new date. If the app ever starts collecting data in a different way, that will be made clear in the app before it happens.
